ââ¬Å"Thank You Maââ¬â¢amâ⬠and ââ¬Å"Marigoldsâ⬠are two fictional short stories that focus on two young teens. ââ¬Å"Thank You Maââ¬â¢amâ⬠was written by Langston Hughes. He was born February 1, 1902 In Joplin, Missouri and was an African-American poet, social activist, novelist, playwright and columnist. ââ¬Å"Marigoldsâ⬠was written by Eugenia W. Collier. She was born in 1928 in the city of Baltimore and was an African-American writer and critic. There are many similarities and differences between ââ¬Å"Thank You Maââ¬â¢amâ⬠and ââ¬Å"Marigolds. â⬠The settings in both stories are similar, but have some differences. Thank You Maââ¬â¢amâ⬠is set in Harlem, New York at 11 oââ¬â¢ clock at night, while ââ¬Å"Marigoldsâ⬠is set in Maryland in 1930 during The Great Depression. Both are also set in the East Coast, but one is set in a rural location while the other in an urban location. The main characters, Roger and Lizabeth, also have similarities and differences. They both are young and naive and both are bothering an older woman.Roger tries to steal Mrs. Luella Bates purse and Lizabeth throws rocks at Miss Lottieââ¬â¢s marigolds. The old women are both very different from each other. Mrs. Luella Bates is strong and sassy while Miss Lottie is broken and quiet. The differences between the main characters are the gender and the lesson they learn. There are three types of conflicts in a story; man vs. self, and vs. man and man vs. society. Both stories have some similar conflicts, and some different. For the man vs. self conflict, Roger has to decide whether he can trust Mrs. Luella Bates and Lizabeth have to deal with growing out of her innocence and into maturity. For man vs. man, Mrs. Luella Bates and Miss Lottie both have a conflict with Roger and Lizabeth bothering them. And lastly for man vs. society, Mrs. Luella Bates and Miss Lottie both have a problem with the main characters naivety. The plots of both stories are more different than similar. The plot of ââ¬Å"Thank You Maââ¬â¢amâ⬠is simple. The main protagonist, Roger, tries to steal an old womanââ¬â¢s purse, but doesnââ¬â¢t get away with it. The old woman, or Mrs. Luella Bates, then takes him to her home to wash up and eat.Roger ends up leaving with the ten dollars he originally tried to steal for suede shoes. The plot of ââ¬Å"Marigoldsâ⬠is also simple. Lizabeth, her brother and some neighborhood friends go out to pick on Miss Lottie on a boring afternoon. They throw rocks at her marigolds and chant rude things to her. Lizabeth goes home ashamed and ends up apologizing to Miss Lottie for what sheââ¬â¢s done. Both stories have a simple plot, but have different events. Roger and Lizabeth both go through different things, therefore learning different things at the conclusion of their stories.The theme of ââ¬Å"Thank You Maââ¬â¢amâ⬠is to trust and you will be trusted, while the theme of ââ¬Å"Marigoldsâ⬠is that there is always a time in oneââ¬â¢s life where one has lost innocence and matured. Roger learns to trust and Lizabeth loses her innocence, although both of them mature compared to the beginning of their stories. There are many similarities and differences between ââ¬Å"Thank You Maââ¬â¢amâ⬠and ââ¬Å"Marigolds,â⬠whether in the plot, setting, characters, theme, or conflict. I think the main similarity were the characters. They both were youthful and naive, but mature in the end.

Antisipasi Ancaman Kita mengapresiasi langkah pemerintahan Jokowi dengan menerbitkan Perppu Nomor 2 Tahun 2017 tentang Pembubaran Ormas. Perppu ini mengatur tahapan sanksi bagi ormas anti-Pancasila. Kita juga menyambut baik pembentukan Unit Kerja Presiden Pembinaan Ideologi Pancasila (UKP-PIP). Melalui Perppu Ormas dan UKP-PIP, diharapkan gerakan-gerakan ekstremisme yang hendak menggerogoti ideologi Pancasila dapat direda. Jika Perppu Ormas terkesan agak represif, UKP-PIP terlihat lebih preventif-edukatif karena lebih mengutamakan pengayaan dan pencegahan dini. Meski begitu, mengantisipasi ancaman krisis Pancasila melalui Perppu Ormas dan UKP-PIP tidaklah cukup. Butuh upaya elemen bangsa untuk bersama-sama menghalau ancaman itu. Pertama, kita mendorong peran para ulama dan kiai untuk menjelaskan kepada umat bahwa Pancasila merupakan konsensus para pendiri bangsa yang memuat nilai-nilai agama (Islam). Sebagaimana dikatakan KH Ma'ruf Amin (2017), nilai-nilai dan visi Pancasila sangat islami karena senapas dengan ajaran Islam. Sebab, Islam tidak hanya mengajarkan pentingnya persatuan, tetapi juga kemanusiaan yang adil dan beradab, keadilan sosial, serta hikmah dan kebijaksanaan dalam permusyawaratan atau perwakilan. Dalam Islam, umat lain mendapatkan perlindungan penuh dari negara. Juga jaminan kebutuhan hidup yang sama, baik sandang, papan, maupun pangan, serta kesehatan, pendidikan, dan keamanan. Influences essays No matter what stage in life people are they are subjected to influences. But never before has my generation been under so much influence. We are under influence from our friends, teachers, parents and new information technologies. The influence one person has on another is great. It is so great that it helps with the way we think and the choices we make. The next generation is under the most influence from our own generation. We can mostly thank our friends influence on us for the things we do and the things we say. Parents realise this and thats probably why they tell us not to hang around with that sort of crowd. But the influence from our friends can be the most dangerous and the most important support we are likely to get. This is because they will probably be our friends for life. The next major influence on us is from our parents. They are our legal guardians and we are subject to their commands and influences. Children usually copy what a parent does and tries to do that themselves. Unfortunately parents sometimes dont realise that their influence can be destructive to a childs future development. Our future is partly in their hands. We are in contact with these people five (5) days a week. They are our teachers. Teachers are especially an important influence on us because they are teaching us things we will need in later life. Over many years the job of teacher has changed from one of just teaching to one of support. Never before have teachers been under so much pressure to push us in the right direction. This is why they are such an important influence on us. A very big part of the influence my generation is subject to is that of information technology. More than ever we are learning more from the television set and from radio. But most importantly the WWW has become the biggest and most useful influence on us. Word Class Definition and Examples In English grammar, a word class is a set of words that display the same formal properties, especially their inflections and distribution. The term word class is similar to the more traditional term, part of speech. It is also variously called grammatical category, lexical category, andà syntactic category (although these terms are not wholly or universally synonymous). The two major families of word classes are lexical (or open or form) classes (nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs) and function (or closed or structure) classes (determiners, particles, prepositions, and others). Examples and Observations When linguists began to look closely at English grammatical structure in the 1940s and 1950s, they encountered so many problems of identification and definition that the term part of speech soon fell out of favor, word class being introduced instead. Word classes are equivalent to parts of speech, but defined according to strict linguistic criteria. (David Crystal, The Cambridge Encyclopedia of the English Language, 2nd ed. Cambridge University Press, 2003)There is no single correct way of analyzing words into word classes...Grammarians disagree about the boundaries between the word classes (see gradience), and it is not always clear whether to lump subcategories together or to split them. In general, the form classes provide the primary lexical content; the structure classes explain the grammatical or structural relationship. Think of the form-class words as the bricks of the language and the structure words as the mortar that holds them together. The form classes, however, are large, open classes; new nouns and verbs and adjectives and adverbs regularly enter the language as new technology and new ideas require them. In most instances, we can only assign a word to a word class when we encounter it in context. (Sidney Greenbaum, Oxford English Grammar. Oxford University Press, 1996) Suffixes as Signals We recognize the class of a word by its use in context. Some words have suffixes (endings added to words to form new words) that help to signal the class they belong to. These suffixes are not necessarily sufficient in themselves to identify the class of a word. For example, -ly is a typical suffix for adverbs (slowly, proudly), but we also find this suffix in adjectives: cowardly, homely, manly. And we can sometimes convert words from one class to another even though they have suffixes that are typical of their original class: an engineer, to engineer; a negative response, a negative. Pearson, 2009) A Matter of Degree [N]ot all the members of a class will necessarily have all the identifying properties. Membership in a particular class is really a matter of degree. In this regard, grammar is not so different from the real world. There are prototypical sports like football and not so sporty sports like darts. There are exemplary mammals like dogs and freakish ones like the platypus. Similarly, there are good examples of verbs like watch and lousy examples like beware; exemplary nouns like chair that display all the features of a typical noun and some not so good ones like Kenny.
